The health benefits of soy

Not only is soy high in protein, it’s also known to lower blood cholesterol and reduce the rates of coronary heart disease, osteoporosis, cancer – breast, colon and prostate.

According to the Dietitians of Canada, 1 cup of cooked soybeans contains as much protein as 100 g of cooked meat, chicken or fish. Aside from protein, soybeans also boast fiber, calcium, essential fatty acids and isoflavones.

Soybeans are part of the large legume family, which includes beans, dried peas, lentils and chick peas. The beans were one of the first foods to be grown by humans. They come from Asia and have been grown in China for 13,000 years.

Tofutti products are soy-based, non-dairy foods, which appeal to a large consumer audience. Approximately 20 per cent of the Canadian population has a lactose intolerance. Lactose is a milk sugar contained in most dairy products. Because Tofutti products are made with soy, people with a lactose intolerance can enjoy all Tofutti products.
