Healthy eating habits for kids

shutterstock_110533919With childhood obesity rising in Canada, instilling healthy eating habits in our kids is a huge priority. Kids can be notoriously picky eaters, so how do you instill good eating habits?

Here are a few tips:

Set a good example. If your kids see you choosing healthy options, they’ll follow suit.

Let kids eat until they’re full, and don’t force them to finish everything off their plate.

Encourage your kids to try new things.

Offer a variety of fruits and vegetables every day.

Get your kids to help in the kitchen. If they feel like they’ve contributed to making meals, they’ll be more interested in trying new things.

Don’t use treats and food as a bribe or reward for good behaviour.

Avoid adding extra salt to meals, especially at the table with a salt shaker.

Offer kids milk and water as a beverage instead of juice and pop.
