Fire up the BBQ for Father’s Day

Show Dad how much he means to you by making him a special dinner on Father’s Day, Sunday June 18th. While Dad is out enjoying a game of golf, fishing or doing something he really enjoys on his special day, get the kids to help set the table and make a dinner fit for a king.

Teriyaki Flank Steak

Purchase a whole flank steak. To make the marinade, mix together in a small bowl:

½ cup real maple syrup

½ cup teriyaki sauce

1 Tbsp finely grated garlic

1 tsp freshly grated ginger

Place flank steak in a large casserole dish and pour marinate over top. Marinate in the fridge for up to six hours.

Heat barbeque over high heat until hot. Take a large pair of tongs and remove meat from the marinade and put meat on the grill. Barbeque the steak on one side for about 4 to 5 minutes and then flip steak over and barbeque the other side for about 4 minutes more, or until steak is medium rare. Brush extra marinate on the meat using a barbeque or pastry brush. The length of cooking time depends on the thickness of the cut and how you prefer your steak cooked.

Remove meat from the barbeque and place on a wooden cutting board. Cover meat with foil and let sit for about 3 to 5 minutes. Then slice meat on the diagonal into thin slices and serve.

While meat is resting, pour the marinade into a large frying pan or pot and cook on high for about 5 minutes or until sauce is cooked through and somewhat reduced.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Peel approximately six large potatoes, wash, and then cut into quarters and place in a pot covered in cold water. Bring pot to a boil and then turn on low, cover and let potatoes cook for approximately 30 minutes or until potatoes are soft when a fork is inserted. Drain water and reserve potatoes in the pot. Add 2 tsp of finely minced garlic from a jar along with ½ cup of TOFUTTI BETTER THAN CREAM CHEESE® and use beaters to mix thoroughly. If mixture is too thick, add 1 or 2 Tbsp of non-dairy milk or TOFUTTI SOUR SUPREME®.

Serve mashed potatoes with steak and Dad’s favourite vegetable.
