Celebs who eat vegan, and why

Blog - mushroom soupThere’s a new trend taking over the A-list celebrity circle, and it’s not one you wouldnormally expect from the lifestyles of the rich and famous: veganism.

One would think if you could have it all, you would, and livea lavish life of indulgence. Thisoften includesdining on a diet rich in luxury, and animal protein, such as buttery lobster, fatty foie gras, and exotic game animal steak tartare.

For health, ethical and environmental reasons, however, many celebrities have chosen to adopt a strict vegan diet. This means all animal products are off limits, including dairy, eggs, meat, fish and even honey.

At Tofutti, we salute the stars who have overhauled otherwise opulent lifestyles to instead opt for veganism. Below is a list of celebrity vegans who changed their eating habits for a range of inspiring reasonsthat just might surprise you:

Woody Harrelson

For more than 25 years, the Hunger Games star hasn’t had a hankering for anything containing animal protein. Harrelson initially went vegan due to a dairy allergy that caused him cold-like symptoms and acne – an actor’s worse nightmare! As an avid environmentalist, he’s sustained his diet by living and working on an organic farm in Hawaii along with his family.

Bill Clinton

Who can forget Clinton’s love affair with cheeseburgers? It was widely publicized, and criticized, among other indiscretions. So after undergoing quadruple bypass surgery, it’s no surprise the former U.S. president adopted veganism for health reasons. He swapped his naughty fast-food habits for a diet rich in fresh fruits and veggies, and is said to be slimmer, healthier, and more energized.

Ellen DeGeneres

A lover of living things, talk-show host and comedian DeGeneres switched to veganism as an advocate of animal rights. She, along with her long-time partner, Portia de Rossi, even served an all-vegan menu at their 2008 wedding.

Jennifer Lopez

After giving birth to twins, Lopez turned to a plant-based diet to lose the baby weight, and keep it off. Without a doubt, a vegan diet is toutedas a great weight-loss and maintenance tool, and Lopez is living proof. The triple-threat starin her 40s has never looked, and felt, so good.
