You Asked Us: Why Can’t I Find the Original Tofutti Better Than Sour Cream in stores?
Answer: That’s because we’ve given the product—and the package—a makeover!
It’s still the same great tasting product, only now there are no trans fats! This is the new and improved, cleaner, healthier product and we’ve packaged it in a new container. This is the non-dairy substitute for sour cream with no Tran’s fatty acids. Yes, it looks and tastes like traditional sour cream, but our product is dairy-free and lactose -free, as well as cholesterol -free. It tastes delicious on its own or used in recipes for dips, side dishes, entrees and desserts.
TOFUTTI Better Than Cream Cheese can be substituted at a 1 to 1 ratio for traditional sour cream or cream cheese. Here’s a recipe that uses both products to create rich and delicious brownies.
“Cream Cheese” Swirled Chocolate Brownies
(Serve with fresh strawberries and TOFUTTI PREMIUM® non-dairy frozen dessert)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
Cream Cheese Filling:
- 1 container of TOFUTTI Better Than Cream Cheese
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 2 Tbsp almond milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 1/3 cup of SOUR SUPREME®
- 1/4 cup of vegetable oil
- One egg or egg substitute equivalent to one egg
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 2 Tbsp chocolate chips
To make filling, in the bowl of a stand mixer, cream together the “cream cheese”, sugar, almond milk and vanilla. Spoon into a small bowl and set aside. Wash beaters and bowl and into clean bowl, cream together the brown sugar, “sour cream,” oil, egg or egg substitute. Mix dry ingredients together and then add to liquid. Mix just until blended.
Pour half of the brownie mixture into a prepared eight-inch pan and smooth. Pour all of the filling over top of the brownie layer and spread out. Pour the rest of the brownie mix over the middle layer and spread. Using a wet knife, dip it into all three layers and gently swirl one or two big circles with your knife. Bake 25 minutes, cool and serve.
